I have always loved anything German Chocolate flavored.  Something about the combination of chocolate, pecans and coconut is just heavenly.  So I set out in my kitchen determined to create a German Chocolate flavored brownie recipe that was paleo.  The result was a delicious, gluten-free, fudgy brownie that was a hit at game night!

I love fudgy brownies.  These were flavorful and rich, and the icing was tasty! These were not very difficult to make and were well received when I brought them to game night.

I love the gooey icing, which is full of coconut and pecans to complete the flavor combination.  These were some of my favorite paleo brownies that I have made.

Ingredients
For the brownies:
For the Icing:
  • 1/2 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup ghee or butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup pecans chopped
Instructions
  1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8x8 baking pan.

  2. Combine the brownie ingredients together and mix until everything is well combined (you can use a blender if desired).  Pour the mixture in the baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the center of the brownies is set.

  3. Make the icing.  Add the coconut milk, ghee, egg yolks and coconut sugar to a saucepan over low heat. Whisk constantly until the sauce begins to thicken.

  4. Remove from heat and add in the vanilla and salt and whisk until combined.  Stir in the shredded coconut and pecans. Let cool for 5 minutes.

  5. Spread the icing over the top of the brownies.  Let the brownies cool before slicing.  Serve and enjoy!
